Washington, D.C.: DMV Martial Law Vigil and Speak-out, Sept. 20

Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM EDT

United States Capitol
Washington D.C., DC 20515

Ferdinand Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law on September 21, 1972 began 14 years of brutal dictatorship, a time of pervasive human rights violations – arrests, disappearances, torture, and killings. 48 years later, the Philippines is witnessing another reign of terror and dictatorship. Duterte’s signing of the Anti-Terrorism Law has unleashed Marcos-like, fascist attacks on human rights, democracy, and justice.

But the story of martial law and the history of the Filipino people is not just one of terror. It is the story of unmatched courage, solidarity and fierce resistance.

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, Malaya Movement DMV, BAYAN USA DMV and Allied are coming together for a candlelight vigil and speak-out themed “Never Again to Martial Law! Continue Our History of Resistance Against Dictatorship!”

Here are the details for the vigil:
Sunday September 20, 2020, 5:30 PM
Outside the US Capitol Building
National Mall side, near the Peace Monument

Practice social distancing & wear a mask!

Our day of action will include a candlelight vigil and speak-out to commemorate the lives lost from Marcos to Duterte’s regime and celebrate our rich history of continued resistance against tyranny.

This vigil is part of Malaya Movement and BAYAN USA’s National Day of Action Against Duterte’s Dictatorship.
