The Refounding Conference of the National Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression will take place in Chicago, Illinois on November 22-24. Activists and organizers from across the country will gather to refound NAARPR and coordinate nation-wide actions against state sponsored racial violence. We will commence with the Rally on Human Rights: Democracy and Community Control of Police with a keynote by Angela Davis before the weekend of conference panels, workshops, and plenaries.

In the years since the Furgeson uprising and the waves of protest after, many initiatives have called for limited measures for accountability. More trainings, additional non-lethal weapons, and body cams often just mean additional funding and resources for police, and existing or new oversight policies are rarely—if ever—active and usually are comprised of people selected by city officials or even just law enforcement.
None of the existing measures have done anything to fundamentally change the power dynamic between police and the communities they operate in. Local chapters of NAARPR have been working on shifting the power relation through pushing for democratic community-control of the police. The refounding of the national alliance will allow us to coordinate this campaign nationwide, and others as well.
Thank you for your hard work in this struggle against police crimes, towards democratic community control of law enforcement. We hope to see you in November!
