Speech by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at Saturday’s Havana rally condemning U.S. aggression against Venezuela

0301 viva venezuela7

Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Cuba, has condemned the military aggression perpetrated on Saturday, January 3rd, by the U.S. government against Venezuela and the kidnapping of his counterpart in that South American country, Nicolás Maduro Moros, as an act of state terrorism.

Díaz-Canel asserted that the armed action constitutes a criminal assault against Our America, as a Zone of Peace; a violation of the sovereignty of a nation that is a symbol of independence, dignity, and solidarity; and an unacceptable attack on International Law.

The threat is not only to Venezuela, but to all of humanity, and is based on the fallacious doctrine of peace through force, the Cuban president warned during his address at the event condemning the aggression and expressing support for the Venezuelan president.

Due to its importance, Radio Havana Cuba brings you, in its entirety, the text of the speech delivered by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba at the event held at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune in Havana.

Speech delivered by Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, at the event condemning the military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and expressing support for its legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and the Popular, Military, and Police Unity, held at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune, on January 3, 2026, “Year of the Centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz”

(Stenographic Versions – Presidency of the Republic)

Down with imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down!”)

Down with imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down with it!”)

Down with genocidal, immoral, and fascist imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down with it!”)

Brothers and sisters of Venezuela and all of our America;

Citizens of the world;

Brother Maneiro, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Cuba;

Compatriots:

Our Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, analyzing the dangerous behavior of imperialism in its predatory advance on independent nations of the Middle East, said more than twenty years ago:

“Never before have all the nations of the world been subjected to the power and whims of those who govern a superpower with seemingly limitless power, whose philosophy, political ideas, and notions of ethics no one has the slightest idea about. Their decisions are practically unpredictable and unappealable. The force and capacity to destroy and kill seem to be present in each of their pronouncements.”

These words seem perfectly suited to describe today’s brutal and treacherous attack by U.S. military forces against Venezuela and the unacceptable, vulgar, and barbaric kidnapping of our brother, President Nicolás Maduro, and his partner, Cilia Flores (Applause).

Cuba condemns and denounces these actions as an act of state terrorism; a criminal assault against our America, a Zone of Peace; a violation of the sovereignty of a nation that is a symbol of independence, dignity, and solidarity; and an unacceptable attack on International Law.

No, imperialist gentlemen, this is not your backyard, nor is it disputed territory! We neither accept nor recognize the Monroe Doctrine, nor outdated kings or emperors! The land of Bolívar is sacred, and an attack on its children is an attack on all the worthy children of our America! (Applause.)

And as Abel mentioned, for Venezuela, and of course also for Cuba, we are prepared to give even our own blood, even our own lives, but at a very high price! (Applause.)

The attack in the early morning hours on a peaceful and noble people can only be described as cowardly, criminal, and treacherous.

And it is an act of state terrorism, insofar as it is carried out arbitrarily and abusing military supremacy, on the orders of a foreign leader, as an unequivocal expression of fascism or, better said, of the neo-fascism that they seek to impose and establish on all of humanity in these turbulent times.

Therefore, the threat is not only to Venezuela; the threat is against all of humanity. And it is based on the fallacious doctrine of “peace through strength.”

This act of state terrorism that has just occurred in Venezuela is a scandalous violation of the norms of International Law: military aggression against a peaceful nation, which poses no threat whatsoever to the United States, and the kidnapping of a legitimate President sovereignly elected by his people. This is outrageous, and that is why we, the outraged, are here!

There can be no silence or acceptance of this act of state terrorism, comparable only to the crimes against humanity committed by Israeli Zionism in the Gaza Strip (Applause).

This morning we witnessed a chilling confirmation: the most fervent contender for the Nobel Peace Prize is, in reality, the greatest threat to peace on the continent (Applause). His treacherous attack on Venezuela shatters the stability that has characterized our Latin American and Caribbean region for years.

Those who celebrate the terrorist and fascist act, as Gerardo explained, that the United States has just committed against a sovereign nation on the continent can only do so from a place of hatred that clouds their judgment. No one even remotely informed can ignore or underestimate the grave implications of such criminal acts for regional and global peace.

That is why it is urgent that the international community mobilize, organize, and coordinate in denouncing this flagrant act of state terrorism and the illegal, immoral, and criminal kidnapping of a legitimate president to bring about regime change, as if someone foreign to the Venezuelan people had that right.

The target is not our brother Maduro, nor the Venezuelan military, nor even the fallacious narrative of drug trafficking that was cynically perpetuated for weeks and months by the worst kind of bandits like Marco Rubio. The very dark object of imperialist desire is Venezuelan oil, Venezuela’s land, and its natural resources.

Only cynics and cowards can close their eyes and ears to the declarations of Trump and his cronies, who just days ago admitted, without the slightest shame, that what they seek are Venezuela’s riches—riches openly and without limits promised to them by the empire’s candidate. And now, news is circulating that they will support her to become president of Venezuela.

The objective is also to extinguish that bastion of resistance to imperialism and defense of regional integration that is the Bolivarian Revolution since Commander Chávez’s rise to the presidency of this heroic nation.

The Bolivarian Revolution has proven to be a mass movement, with deep popular roots, and we have no doubt that the people will come out to defend their sovereignty, their democracy, and their President, as they did in April 2002 against the coup d’état also instigated by the US empire, which has never abandoned its attempt to seize Venezuela’s oil. (Applause)

The United States has no moral or legal authority whatsoever to forcibly remove the Venezuelan President from his country! But the United States is indeed responsible to the world for Maduro’s physical safety! (Applause.)

We join the call of the Venezuelan authorities demanding proof that Maduro and Cilia are alive.

For months, they have been fabricating the false accusation of narco-terrorism against the Venezuelan government and have been unable to present a single shred of evidence to support it. They haven’t done so because such evidence doesn’t exist, because such practices don’t exist, because it all stems from a narrative designed to justify this outrageous act of state terrorism they have just committed.

From within their own federal agencies, US analysts and researchers have been offering opinions and information that refute the false narrative of narco-terrorism and debunk these accusations against Venezuela and its President.

It is outrageous that Trump, Rubio, and their cronies don’t care about the truth. They are the ones who should be condemned by an international anti-fascist tribunal! (Applause.)

The fascists who are in power in the United States today learned very well from their Nazi role models the Goebbelsian principle that a lie repeated a thousand times can become the truth. But the truth will prevail, and the people will defend it as they triumphed and defeated Hitlerian fascism in the past.

Neither the Venezuelan people, nor the American people, nor the international community believe the string of lies they have been constructing.

These are not times for half measures; these are times for defining our positions and taking a stand against fascism and imperial barbarism! (Applause.)

Let us close ranks, peoples of the Americas, let us not allow the seven-league giant to pass us by!

Let us not forget what Che Guevara warned six decades ago: “…imperialism cannot be trusted, not even a little bit” (Applause).

Nicolás and Cilia are from Venezuela, and they must be returned to the Venezuelan people who elected and demand their legitimate President (Applause).

Down with imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down!”)

Down with imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down!”)

Down with imperialism! (Exclamations of: “Down!”)

The people united will never be defeated! (Exclamations of: “The people united will never be defeated!”)

Cuba and Venezuela, united they will win! (Exclamations of: “Cuba and Venezuela, one flag!”)

Patria o Muerte!
Homeland or Death!

Socialism or Death!
Socialism or Death!

Venceremos!
We will win!

Hermanos de Venezuela y de toda nuestra América;
Ciudadanos del mundo;
Hermano Maneiro, Embajador de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela en Cuba;
Compatriotas:

¡Patria o Muerte!
¡Socialismo o Muerte!
¡Venceremos!

Baltimore emergency protest against U.S. attacks on Venezuela

Baltimore People’s Power Assembly condemns U.S. strikes on Venezuela and calls for immediate protest

The Baltimore People’s Power Assembly strongly condemns the U.S. military’s brutal strikes on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president, Nicolás Maduro. Airstrikes on civilian and military targets come after weeks of provocation against Venezuela by Donald Trump and the entire U.S. government. As if bombing innocent fishermen and migrants along the coast was not bad enough, the United States has now escalated its war against Venezuela with airstrikes aimed at crippling Venezuela’s crucial infrastructure in Caracas, the nation’s capital.

These strikes are flagrant violations of international law and the self-determination of the Venezuelan people. While in the United States, workers face historic joblessness and inflation, the U.S. government continues to pour millions into waging war.

In response to these brutal and inhumane attacks on Venezuela, the Baltimore People’s Power Assembly is calling for a demonstration in Baltimore to demand no war on Venezuela. We need money for healthcare, education, and jobs—not war on Venezuela.

Venezuela declares state of emergency, calls for international solidarity

Editor’s note: The following is the official communiqué issued by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on January 3, 2026, in response to U.S. military strikes on Caracas and surrounding areas. President Trump announced the operation on social media early Saturday morning, claiming the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. International reactions have been swift, with Russia, Iran, China, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, and Belarus condemning the strikes. UN special rapporteur Ben Saul called it “illegal aggression” and an “illegal abduction.” Venezuela has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting.

COMMUNIQUÉ
BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects, condemns, and denounces to the international community the grave military aggression perpetrated by the current government of the United States of America against Venezuelan territory and population in civilian and military localities of the city of Caracas, capital of the Republic, and the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

This act constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, particularly its Articles 1 and 2, which enshrine respect for sovereignty, the legal equality of states, and the prohibition of the use of force. Such aggression threatens international peace and stability, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean, and gravely endangers the lives of millions of people.

The objective of this attack is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, in particular its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the political independence of the nation. They shall not succeed. After more than two hundred years of independence, the people and their legitimate government remain steadfast in defense of sovereignty and the inalienable right to decide their own destiny. The attempt to impose a colonial war to destroy the republican form of government and force a “regime change,” in alliance with the fascist oligarchy, will fail as all previous attempts have.

Since 1811, Venezuela has confronted and defeated empires. When in 1902 foreign powers bombarded our coasts, President Cipriano Castro proclaimed: “The insolent foot of the foreigner has profaned the sacred soil of the Homeland.” Today, with the spirit of Bolívar, Miranda, and our liberators, the Venezuelan people rise once again to defend their independence against imperial aggression.

To the Streets, People

The Bolivarian government calls upon all social and political forces of the country to activate mobilization plans and repudiate this imperialist attack. The people of Venezuela and its Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in perfect popular-military-police fusion, are deployed to guarantee sovereignty and peace.

Simultaneously, Bolivarian Peace Diplomacy will submit the corresponding denunciations before the United Nations Security Council, the Secretary-General of said organization, CELAC, and the NAM, demanding condemnation and accountability from the United States government.

President Nicolás Maduro has directed all national defense plans to be implemented at the appropriate time and under appropriate circumstances, in strict adherence to the provisions of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Organic Law on States of Exception, and the Organic Law on National Security.

In this regard, President Nicolás Maduro has signed and ordered the implementation of the Decree declaring a State of External Commotion throughout the national territory, to protect the rights of the population, the full functioning of republican institutions, and to immediately transition to armed struggle. The entire country must activate to defeat this imperialist aggression.

Likewise, he has ordered the immediate deployment of the Command for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation and the Comprehensive Defense Directional Organs in all states and municipalities of the country.

In strict adherence to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, Venezuela reserves the right to exercise legitimate defense to protect its people, its territory, and its independence. We call upon the peoples and governments of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world to mobilize in active solidarity against this imperial aggression.

As Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez Frías stated, “In the face of any circumstance of new difficulties, however great they may be, the response of all patriots… is unity, struggle, battle, and victory.”

Trump’s illegal Venezuela blockade stops U.S. solidarity delegation, sparks legal response

Signal 2025 12 09

The following press release is from a coalition of U.S. antiwar and solidarity organizations blocked from traveling to Venezuela for the International Peoples’ Assembly for Sovereignty and Peace. The Trump administration’s illegal interference with Venezuelan airspace prevented most U.S. delegates from attending the December 8-9 gathering in Caracas, though a small number broke through to reach Venezuela.

U.S. solidarity delegation blocked from traveling to Venezuela by illegal Trump “no-fly zone” to discuss legal and political response

New York, New York — A coalition of peace, justice, and antiwar organizers inside the United States announced that they are joining forces with lawyers to explore potential legal challenges after being illegally prevented from traveling to Venezuela to attend the People’s Assembly for Peace and Sovereignty in Our Americas, held December 8–9 and organized by the Simón Bolívar Institute in Caracas. Their travel was obstructed due to Trump’s criminal blockade and illegal GPS interference in Venezuelan airspace. The organizers who were blocked will hold a press conference in New York City on Wednesday, December 10, at 2:00 PM.

Representatives had planned to travel on behalf of a broad coalition of organizations, including Workers World Party, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, the International Action Center, National Lawyers Guild- International Committee, International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), Asociación Americana de Juristas (AAJ), the National Anti-War Action Network, the Black Alliance for Peace, Resist U.S.-Led War, the U.S. Peace Council, Mutual Aid Scientific Socialism (MASS), Veterans for Peace, the Palaver Collective, Crown Heights Bites Back, the December 12th Movement, the Struggle for Socialism Party, Students for a Democratic Society, CODEPINK, International League of Peace and Struggle, Venezuela Solidarity Network, and the Bolivarian Circle — reflecting the depth and diversity of grassroots, anti-imperialist, and working-class forces committed to international solidarity with Venezuela.

The Assembly brings together over 2,000 delegates from social movements, labor organizations, women’s and youth networks, Indigenous and Afro-descendant movements, and peace organizations across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and North America. Its purpose is to build coordinated strategies for defending peace, sovereignty, and self-determination in the hemisphere — a gathering more urgent than ever amid escalating U.S. military aggression. Yet U.S.-based delegates — operating inside “the Belly of the Beast” — were barred from participating after the Trump administration attempted to impose a de facto no-fly zone over Venezuelan airspace.

On November 29, President Trump declared — without Congressional approval, UN authorization, or legal authority — that Venezuelan airspace should be considered “closed in its entirety.” Almost immediately, pilots began reporting GPS interference and “navigation signal disruptions” while approaching Caracas International Airport. Aviation analysts note that such disruptions mirror electronic warfare tactics the United States has deployed in advance of military operations in other regions. The resulting climate of uncertainty triggered cascading flight suspensions and widespread anxiety among travelers, with 75% of international flights to Venezuela cancelled as a result.

For thousands of Venezuelans abroad, these disruptions have produced a humanitarian crisis for families attempting to return home for Christmas, stranded in airports from Madrid to Panama City. Elderly passengers have gone days without assistance, and many travelers have been forced to reroute through Bogotá and cross into Cúcuta on foot just to reach Venezuelan territory. In response, the Venezuelan government has mobilized state-owned aircraft to assist stranded citizens and ensure reunification during the holiday season.

Against this backdrop, the U.S. peace delegation sees these travel restrictions as a deliberate attempt to disrupt international solidarity. “This is an attempt to blockade solidarity and to isolate Venezuela from the global peace movement,” said coalition spokesperson Sara Flounders. “We were invited to Venezuela to build working-class unity, strengthen international anti-imperialist coordination, and deepen our collective struggle for peace. The U.S. government sought to stop us from even showing up,” said Roger Wareham from the December 12th Movement.

Delegates emphasize that this no-fly zone attempt is not an isolated incident, but part of a decades-long U.S. campaign of imperialist aggression — from multiple failed coup attempts, including the 2002 U.S.-backed coup against President Hugo Chávez; to the backing of astroturfed opposition figures such as Juan Guaidó and María Corina Machado; to the 2020 CIA-linked “Operation Gideon” plot to kidnap President Maduro; to ongoing economic warfare, illegal sanctions, and political destabilization. Despite these escalations, recent polling shows that 70 percent of U.S. residents oppose a war on Venezuela.

“We refuse to accept the lies used to justify regime change and resource theft,” said William Camacaro. “The real threat to peace in the hemisphere is U.S. imperialism — not the Bolivarian Revolution,” added Corinna Mullin, of the U.S. Peace Council.

Though physically blocked, the coalition states that their commitment has only grown stronger. “Our bodies were blocked from traveling, but our solidarity was not,” said Suzanne Adely, of the National Lawyers Guild. Ajamu Baraka, National Organizer for Black Alliance for Peace, noted, “Washington’s greatest fear is not a plane landing in Caracas — it is that people’s movements across the Americas are learning from each other, deepening unity, and organizing together against imperialism.”

The coalition affirmed its determination to expand the antiwar movement inside the United States and strengthen global struggles against capitalism, militarism, and imperialism.

No War on Venezuela.

Venceremos.
