Aug. 10 — Hundreds of people came to Corona Plaza in Queens, New York this afternoon to say no to Trump’s round-ups of immigrant workers and their families. The working-class neighborhood has been targeted by the ICE Gestapo for round-ups of immigrant workers and their families.
People carried colorful signs declaring ICE = Gestapo and Hands Off New York. Overhead rumbled the No. 7 subway train. People chanted “¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!” — “The people united will never be defeated!”
Speakers emphasized the role of immigrants as essential workers, especially in health care. They denounced the revoking of Temporary Protective Status for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and demanded that ICE be abolished.
Among the groups that helped organize the action were Make The Road New York; New York Immigration Coalition; Las Doñas; Hands Off NYC; and the ACLU. Speakers included New York City Council members Tiffany Cabán and Shekar Krishnan, and State Assembly member Catalina Cruz.
After the rally volunteers went around to stores dropping off cards with information on how people can defend their rights against La Migra. Abolish ICE!
