Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, welcomed and expressed his gratitude to the advance group of the “Nuestra América” Convoy.

Through his official account on the social network X, the Cuban leader wrote:

“An advance group of solidarity groups and individuals from many parts of the world—united in the #ConvoyNuestraAmérica—has now arrived in #Cuba. They bring shipments of aid to counter the attempt to suffocate us. Once again, the tenderness of the peoples is welcome. Solidarity always returns to those who practice it with no interest other than human well-being. THANK YOU. #CubaNoEstáSola”

The contingent arrived Tuesday evening at José Martí International Airport. It forms part of the European section of the convoy and includes representatives from some 50 solidarity organizations, political groups, and trade union and workers’ collectives from 17 countries, with additional representation from Morocco and Algeria in North Africa.

Rigoberto Zarza, Director for Europe at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), detailed that the shipment—valued at approximately 500,000 euros—will be distributed in coordination with Cuban institutions to four hospitals in the capital.

The initiative was coordinated by the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (Italy) and the Progressive International. It gathered contributions from some 700 individuals acting in a personal capacity, as well as from various European solidarity collectives. Zarza called the initiative highly significant—not only for what it materially represents at this moment from a medical and humanitarian standpoint, but also for the recognition it demonstrates of the particularly difficult situation the archipelago currently faces in the energy sector. That reality is further underscored by the inclusion of photovoltaic systems in the shipment.

In the coming days, additional groups from various geographic regions are expected to arrive in Cuba with similar shipments. Their aim is to ease strains caused by the intensification of the “maximum suffocation” policy the U.S. government is carrying out against the largest island of the Antilles.
