More than 60 organizations in Los Angeles have come together to establish the Community Self-Defense Coalition to fight ICE. The Coalition held a march on Feb. 17 and, in the days following, conducted community patrols in South Central LA.
On Feb. 19, Unión del Barrio – an organization in the coalition – posted to Facebook:
“We continue to patrol our streets in search of ICE so that we can alert our people so they don’t get kinapped and ripped apart from their families … We need other communities to also organize to do this work in defense of our people.”
On the same day, the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice – another coalition organization – posted to Facebook:
“Felt great to be part of the Community Self-Defense Coalition’s patrol this morning! We rode around looking for ICE agents’ vehicles so we could warn people in the neighborhood ahead of time.”
