LA Community Self-Defense Coalition is fighting ICE

The Community Self-Defense Coalition held a march on Feb. 17, vowing to fight against ICE repression.

More than 60 organizations in Los Angeles have come together to establish the Community Self-Defense Coalition to fight ICE. The Coalition held a march on Feb. 17 and, in the days following, conducted community patrols in South Central LA.

Ron Gochez of Unión del Barrio speaks at the march.

On Feb. 19, Unión del Barrio – an organization in the coalition – posted to Facebook:

“We continue to patrol our streets in search of ICE so that we can alert our people so they don’t get kinapped and ripped apart from their families … We need other communities to also organize to do this work in defense of our people.”

John Parker with the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice was interviewed about the coalition’s work.

On the same day, the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice – another coalition organization – posted to Facebook:

“Felt great to be part of the Community Self-Defense Coalition’s patrol this morning! We rode around looking for ICE agents’ vehicles so we could warn people in the neighborhood ahead of time.”
