Zohran Mamdani’s stunning upset in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary has Wall Street and the political establishment in panic. The democratic socialist, who rose from 1% in early polls to defeat Andrew Cuomo with 56% of the vote, ran on a platform for free transit, rent freezes, public childcare, and solidarity with Palestine — in the “capital of capitalism.” His victory signals a revolt from below: a working class tired of austerity, policing, and billionaire rule.
