Hands off Patricia Okoumou!

Patricia Okoumou

Patricia Okoumou, the courageous woman who dramatically climbed the Statue of Liberty on July 4th to protest the jailing of 15,000 immigrant children by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was found “guilty” in Federal Court on Dec. 17.

“I am guilty of caring too much about the children in our taxpayer cages, our callous government, and our immoral laws,” wrote Okoumou on Twitter.

Humanity doesn’t count for much in capitalist courts. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Kalikow declared that Patricia Okoumou “knew that what she was doing was wrong and illegal.” (Guardian, Dec. 17)

Isn’t separating children from their parents “wrong and illegal” Mr. Kalikow?

Despite facing possible 18 months jail time for her courageous deed, Patricia Okoumou is defiant. “So if I go in a cage with them, I am on the right side of history.”

Okoumou is scheduled to be sentenced on March 5 at the beginning of International Working Women’s Month.

The Trump regime mustn’t be allowed to jail Patricia Okoumou.
